The word prohibition refers to any law that is banning the sale and consumption of alcohol. The prohibition period started from the ban of alcohol in the 1920s. The prohibition period was a period of protest that brought along a great amount of organized crime. Just how drug dealers smuggle drugs, bootleggers smuggled alcohol. Prohibition and organized crime started in Chicago in the 1920s. This was mainly due to Al Capone’s arrival to Chicago.
Al Capone was the leader of the Torrio's gang and probably the biggest bootlegger of all time making him a big figure in prohibition period. He was one of the smartest people during the 1920s; he would have alcohol delivered from all over the world to him and then deliver it via deliver trucks and salespeople. Since all of this was illegal under Prohibition, Capone bought his way through things. He bought legal immunity by bribing police and politicians. He paid off every law enforcement agent and politician in the cities where he operated his illegal businesses. This was such a big deal during the 1920s due to the united consequence such as the rise in crime and protests against prohibition. Prohibition also lost the Government tax revenue which would play a large role in the great depression. (William)
