The Flapper and Women's changing roles!
Flappers were young girls, and women whose fashion sense was one in which personalized the changing of attitudes and characteristic customs of America. Flappers were thought to be those of who were emphasizing a boyish figure. The flapper smoked and drank like they were a man; along with acting like a man they had relations of friendship with men. The flapper brought upon controversy in the public, with women coming of age in the 1920s, premarital sex was double as likely to happen. Dating, Birth Control, and the discussion of sex was at a rise at this time, the flapper was the main symbol for new sexual liberation of women. The flapper was an updated model of woman-hood; the flapper was not aiming for any changes in the role of modern women-hood, when she abandoned marriage and children. The flapper gave the women to have different path other than the marriage and motherhood path, the flapper was an automatic mainstream that was iconic for the youth, and the flapper represented a fundamental way of a new modern era. The flapper’s fashion was a factor that played a role in this new way of the paths in life, new innovations of clothing made it possible for the fashion to have a wider range in all of women's dress. Young teenagers could afford the fashion and made the style into a trademark with their peers. Even older women exposed to certain elements of what the flapper’s style is.(Mihailoff)
